Mahawu Mountain in Tomohon City, North Sulawesi Province
Aside from Lokon, there is another famous volcano located in Tomohon City. The name is Mahawu Mountain and it belongs to North Tomohon Sub-District. To be exact, the location is in Kakaskasen Satu Village. Also, it resides in the east of Lokon, so tourists can notice it easily. In terms of name, Mahawu derives from the Minahasa Language which means “ashes”. The locals also often call it Roemengas Mountain! Even though the government has stated that the mountain is inactive, it still emits sulfuric gas! The good news is tourists are allowed to conduct trekking to the crater as long as they obey the instructions.

The distance between Manado City (the capital of North Sulawesi Province) and Mahawu Mountain is 30.2 km. That means the trip may take approximately 1 hour and 2 minutes to get there.
