Tondano Lake in Tomohon City, North Sulawesi Province


Located in the border of Tomohon City and Minahasa Regency, a grand lake resides. The name is Tondano Lake and it has become a major vacation spot in North Sulawesi Province of Indonesia. As the name suggests, the location is near to Tondano Mountain (which is also a famous tourist attraction). Due to the big size and beautiful panorama, the lake is able to attract lots of tourists over time. The Nuance
3 mountains and 1 major hill surround Tondano Lake. They are Kaweng, Lembean, and Masarang Mountain. As for the hill, it is called Tampusu. As mentioned before, Tondano is known for its big size, which is approximately 4278 hectares. It also resides on 684 meters above the sea level, so the atmosphere is suitable enough for relaxation. For the information, the lake also holds different species of fishes including carps, tawes, mujjair, and snakehead murrels. In fact, many black lobsters also live there! This explains why many people come to the lake for fishing during weekends.

Exploring Tondano Lake

Once arriving at the site, tourists may see the cobalt blue color of the water. In the midst of the lake, in fact, a small island resides! The name is Likri Island and it has the size of 100 meters x 30 meters. From afar, the island looks like floating grassland. For those coming from Manado City, they may spend about 1 hour and 26 minutes to get to Tondano Lake. It is because the distance is 42.6 km. Have no worries. The trip becomes faster if they take Tondano Kamangta Street. Actually, there is no need to hire a local guide as the lake is quite noticeable regardless of where tourists come from.
